“I am still learning.”

I am still learning. You are still learning. I think this is something we all forget from time to time. And I don’t mean learning as in ‘I’m going to school/uni/tafe and getting an education.’ I mean learning how to live in this world. Learning how to be ourselves. Learning how to be a good friend, or a good daughter/son for our parents. Learning how to be happy for ourselves.

We all make mistakes and nobody is perfect, this is something I have said before and will continue to say for the rest of my life. We all put so much pressure on ourselves to be better or to ‘fix’ ourselves in some sort of way, and with this pressure we all forget that we are all trying to live our lives to the best of our abilities. It’s okay if you failed that exam. It’s okay if you lost a friendship that wasn’t good for you. It’s okay if you said you would do something and you didn’t because you got too busy. It’s okay if you forgot to reply to that text and now someone isn’t impressed that you didn’t reply. It’s okay if you don’t want to do something because you just want to stay in bed and watch movies for a while.

We are all on this earth for a reason, and you don’t have to know that reason. You just need to remember to keep living and understand that everything happens for a reason and you are still learning. I mean, it’s true when someone says, ‘you learn something new every day’. In a sense, we think they mean things like, ‘oh I learnt that that mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell’, or ‘I learnt that pteronophobia is the fear of being tickled by feathers’ or ‘when hippos are upset their sweat turns red.’

But in reality, every day we learn something new about ourselves, we just don’t take notice to it. For example, ‘today I learnt that I do not like cinnamon no no’ or ‘today I learnt that I’m really not good at parking so that’s something I need to work on’ or ‘today I learnt that I don’t like it when people say the word “oi”.’

Every single day we are alive on this earth, we are constantly learning new things about ourselves. Or just learning in general.

Remember to not put yourself down because of something that may seem like it matters now, remember that in a few weeks or months it will seem so miniscule that you will wonder why you even stressed about it in the moment.

We are all human, we are all learning, and we need to not forget that.
