Now is the time of the year when previous graduates from high school are receiving their university offers, or figuring out what they want to do with their lives. But let me tell you something, university isn’t the only option. If you know what you want to do, and you know uni is for you, then that’s great! And if you weren’t a fan of school and you’re not sure what you want to do after high school, then that’s great too!
You don’t have to go to uni to do well in life. Going to uni doesn’t make you smarter than anyone else, and not going to uni doesn’t make you dumb.
After leaving high school, I was so excited to be offered a place in studying Nursing so I jumped right in. I loved it, but I failed a subject, got kinda sad because I wasn’t achieving my goals so I took 6 months off. And that’s fine.
I have a friend who moved to NSW to be with the love of her life and study down there. She moved far away from her friends and family to study and live her life and make memories and did very well.
I have another friend who didn’t get and OP, didn’t go to uni, but did live her life as well as she could. She worked at a Summer camp in America, travelled all around America and ended up in Canada. Came home with the most amazing memories that will last her a life time. And this year, she’s still not going to uni, she’s moving to England to bartend. And that’s amazing too.
I have another friend who had no idea what he wanted to do. So he spent the year working and spending time with friends and making amazing memories in our lil home town and taking trips away.
I have another friend who didn’t like school, but loves horses. She graduated high school and spent the whole year working with horses pre training them for races. And one day aims to own her own business.
My point is, you don’t have to go to university unless you really want to. I remember being in high school and the pressure of QCS and getting your uni references in was pushed so far down our throats and no one really spoke about what there was to do besides university.
So to everyone that has just graduated, with or without an OP, just take it slow and trust that the universe has a plan for you. It’s all going to be okay so there’s no point stressing about your future just yet. You don’t have to have your life planned out at this age, just give it some time and don’t forget to breath. You’re doing the best you can.
